K. Irani, one of the founders of Mikron Infrared and well-known in Infrared circles as one of the driving force behind Mikron’s in-depth product line of Infrared Calibration products, has retired from his active tasks.

He is now offering consulting services through a new organization Infrared Technologies, Inc and their website “Infrared Technology” (201-264-1900 phone), Offering:

“Consulting services for non-contact temperature measurement,
infrared thermal imaging, and blackbody calibration sources”

Among the interesting things to be found on this website are a series of industrial applications stories on uses of Infrared thermometers and Thermal Imagers.

Here is an example of one of them: A Coal-fired power plant movie that depicts accumulation of ash on wall tubes.

CERTIFICATION

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration has subscribed to the Advanced, Rectification, and Instructors Courses offered by the Law Enforcement Thermographers Association. In addition, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has adopted the criteria established by LETA. and is utilizing LETA to instruct their agents and personnel.

“‘LETA’ RECOGNIZES TWELVE (11) CURRENT LAW ENFORCEMENT APPLICATIONS FOR THE USE OF THERMOGRAPHY. THESE APPLICATIONS ARE NOT FINITE, NOR LIMITED IN NUMBER AS LAW ENFORCEMENT HAS, AND WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP NEW APPLICATIONS AS THE LAW AND SCIENCE EVOLVE.”

They are:
1. SEARCH AND RESCUE
2. FUGITIVE SEARCHES
3. VEHICLE PURSUITS
4. FLIGHT SAFETY
5. MARINE AND GROUND SURVEILLANCE
6. PERIMETER SURVEILLANCE

Home Inspector, Inspections, East Texas

Starting with a headline and tag lines that say:

Become A Certified Thermographer

“Teleconference In Your Home (New Course Every Month)

“All By Phone - No Internet Connection Required
Or… On-Site Training Anywhere In The USA And Canada

The web site Infrared-Certified.com can’t help but grab your attention.

It certainly got mine!

Then there’s their cool logo of the letter C in color palette graphics.

What the heck is this about?
That was my first reaction, but it didn’t take long and only one telephone call to John McKenna in Texas to figure it out.

The site, the training and the program serves the purpose of helping Home Inspectors learn the basics of Thermal Imaging and how to use it as part of their offerings for customers to catch things they could and can easily miss without infrared.

The outline of their training course is downloadable from their website and open for everyone to see and listed on the second page of this article.

They have been certified as a training organization for Home Inspectors by InterNACHI, the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors (They train and certify Home Inspectors in the larger area of overall home inspections.)

In addition to teleconference courses, the training programs for Infrared are offered at other locations as the training schedule for SPRING 2008 below shows.

NEXT ON-SITE COURSE

* Orlando Florida training course - April 12-13 .

* Brentwood Tennessee training course - May 10-11 State Approved by Tennessee, CE# 117-08, 16 Hours CE units

* Boulder Colorado training course - May 17-18

* Dallas Texas class will be announced shortly .

REQUEST ON-SITE TRAINING

If you would like a live infrared training course at your location, please contact them at… info[at]texas-inspection.com (a minimum of 10 students must pre pay for on-site training).

Training available in the United States and Canada.

The January 2008 Issue of ITC InfraMation Thermography Newsletter contains a very unusual applications story by Phillip McMullan of Thermo-Scan Inspections, Carmel, Indiana, USA.

It begins: “The use of non-destructive testing methods to examine the thermal envelope of low and medium temperature refrigerated facilities is the subject of this article. Commercial refrigeration is similar to the refrigeration that occurs in your household refrigerator…”

Jon Chynoweth Appointed Executive Vice President

Cantronic Systems Inc. (”Cantronic”) (TSX VENTURE:CTS) has announce the creation of Thermography division with the appointment of Jon Chynoweth as Executive Vice President of the division.

Mr. Chynoweth will be based in the United States and will report directly to the President/CEO of Cantronic.

Mr. Chynoweth’s last position was Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Mikron Infrared for the Thermal Imaging Division. While at Mikron Infrared, growth in thermography-related products sales over a period of nine years increased annually at a rate of approximately 20% per year, with 2006 gross sales over $12m US dollars.

In response to rapid growth potentials in both thermography and security night vision market segments, Cantronic will divide its current products into two divisions - Thermography Division, and Security Night Vision Division.

Mr. Chynoweth will focus on leading the Sales and Marketing of the Thermography division while Mr. Mark Mandell will focus on leading the sales of security night vision products.

Cantronic’s Thermography division products will include all Cantronic and QWIPTECH products with radiometric temperature reading capabilities such as hand-held thermography cameras, SARS/Avian Flu body temperature reading cameras, high end thermal imaging cameras for science applications, as well as our planned on-line process monitoring products.

Built upon its existing thermography camera products, Cantronic is broadening its product offerings by adopting its existing products into on-line process monitoring applications and developing more products around its QWIP-based infrared detector technology for demanding science and industrial maintenance applications.

“Indicated by the fact that one US company alone recorded increased thermography revenue of $111 million US dollars for the first 6 months of 2007, we believe there will be a significant market size and growth potential for Cantronic to tap into and have a share of this growing segment”, commented, James Zahn, President and CEO of Cantronic Systems. “This will be another market segment that our infrared detector and imaging technologies can be applied, and we expect our thermography division can become an important part of our growth strategy and contribute equally if not more to our future revenue.”

“With new applications continuously been opened up and increased product offerings built upon our infrared detector and imaging technologies, Cantronic is positioned for rapid growth”, added Mr. Zahn. “Mr. Chynoweth will be a key component of an effective and professional management team. With his excellent credential in the thermography market segment and expertise in managing our sales process in setting up distribution channels for national and international clients, Cantronic will quickly become an industry standard and we believe that Mr. Chynoweth is the best person to lead that growth going forward.”
