This YouTube video is a 3D real time model is of a cement kiln turning while monitored by an infrared line scanner. Single scanning images are combined and built up on a computer display.

The resulting thermal map of the kiln exterior is used to pinpoint locations of both blockages in material flow and pending failures in the refractory block insulation on the kiln interior.

The model is radiometric which means that any point of the kiln wall can be accurately measured for its temperature - Visualisation provided by Thermoteknix, on the Web at thermoteknix.com

Thermal image of cellular base stationThe Electrophysics website has several new and useful items available in the area of Thermal Imaging Applications. One of the very interesting ones is the new Image Gallery. They call it a part of their “Knowledge Center” with summary and links to white papers and other links pertaining to infrared inspection and industrial thermal imaging

The image above is on their webpage and gives an idea of the quality of the images from their 640 x 480 imagers.

The January 2008 Issue of ITC InfraMation Thermography Newsletter contains a very unusual applications story by Phillip McMullan of Thermo-Scan Inspections, Carmel, Indiana, USA.

It begins: “The use of non-destructive testing methods to examine the thermal envelope of low and medium temperature refrigerated facilities is the subject of this article. Commercial refrigeration is similar to the refrigeration that occurs in your household refrigerator…”

This is an overview YouTube video (below) showing the application of Infrared Thermal Imaging in Fire fighting. It was a presentation held during the 102nd New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Annual Convention and Expo.

Please note, too, the need for continued training recommended by experienced fire fighters.

Very few fire companies in the USA are today without such devices.

Thermal imaging is one of the most exciting new technologies to emerge for the fire service in decades. Infrared technology offers a new vision of the fire scene, allowing fire fighters to see through smoke to locate the seat of the fire and to quickly locate hazardous hotspots.
